This exhibition is a celebration of the age old Gondi imagination, through paintings, with a new perspective. Gond is not only a style of painting, it is a tradition in itself and painting is one of the reflections through which one understands Gondi life.

This mystical art form is known for its style which is created by putting together dots and lines. These imaginative uses of the lines impart a sense of movement to the still images. In the eyes of a Gond artist, everything is sacred and intimately connected to nature. We can see in this exhibition the beautiful use of vibrant colours, through which the artists have depicted the local flora and fauna, humans and Gods.

In this exhibition one of the common and distinctive elements is the use of patterns, which shows how close the artists are with the Mother Nature. Mostly tribal and folk arts are criticized for their repetitiveness, but this repetition is the soul of these art forms. Originally these paintings were done on the walls, but these young Gondi artists are rekindling the art forms with their contemporary understanding. They are experimenting with the new mediums with new thoughts, while keeping the style intact.

Artist Mayank Shyam used these interesting patterns to infill the large forms on the canvas, whereas, Ram Singh used beautiful and vibrant colours to depict local flora and fauna. Saroj's paintings have strong concept, and a great sense of composition. The artist depicts the interdependent relationships with nature.

Venkat Shyam's playful compositions have certain sense of balance and symmetry; he has used some modern and natural metaphors in his works like train, plane along with trees, leaves, squirrel, animals and human figures.

Being an Indian art gallery, Kalakriti takes pride and responsibility in showcasing the amazingly beautiful local art forms. Also, we strongly believe that Gond art is no less than any main stream art. Come and experience the wonders of Gond.
